Kennie Deen, a 21-year-old individual, has been incarcerated at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown for a period of eighteen months due to a conviction of theft.
The police alleged that on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Guard Street in Freetown, Deen stole the sum of five thousand Leones from Akim Tejan Gibril.
It is reported that Deen visited Gibril's business premises and surreptitiously stole a plastic container from the business table, which contained the aforementioned sum of money.
Subsequently, Deen was apprehended and investigated by the police before being brought before the court.
Deen appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at the Pademba Road Court No.2 in Freetown, facing a single count charge of larceny. A plea was not entered by Deen, as the trial was considered a summary trial rather than a preliminary investigation.
During the course of the trial, the prosecution presented three witnesses to the court. Subsequently, the Magistrates withdrew the case file for ruling.
In delivering his judgment, Magistrate Bangura recounted the evidence presented in court, emphasizing that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt that Deen had indeed stolen the plastic container containing five thousand Leones from the complainant.
In light of the evidence presented, Magistrate Bangura sentenced Deen to a term of imprisonment for eighteen months.
Following Magistrate Bangura's judgment, a somber atmosphere prevailed in the courtroom. The convicted Deen exhibited a devastated demeanor as he was escorted to the Male Correctional Facility, where he will serve his sentence.
