US encourages Government and Opposition to revitalize democracy in Sierra Leone


The U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for West Africa (DAS) Michael Heath has impressed upon the government of Sierra Leone and the opposition, of the importance of democracy and inclusion during separate meetings with the Vice President Dr. Juldeh Jalloh and opposition leader Dr. Samura Kamara.


In his meeting with Vice President Juldeh Jalloh, DAS Heath spotlighted on national dialogue to restore confidence in Sierra Leone’s democracy.


He assured of the continuation of the bilateral relations between the countries, specifically the MCC Compact dependent on democratic and electoral reforms.


The Deputy Assistant Secretary in his meeting with Dr. Samura Kamara, emphasized on the need for opposition participation in national dialogue and national institutions.


In a summary statement of DAS Heath’s visit, the US acknowledges that democratic revitalization in Salone should be placed ahead of partisan concerns.
