Mohamed Josei, 18, was denied bail and remanded to a Male Correctional Facility in Freetown after being charged with domestic economic violence and larceny involving over 75,000 Leones belonging to his cousin.

Josei appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, facing two charges: domestic violence in the form of economic abuse, violating section 2 (1) of the Domestic Violence Act of 2007, and larceny, contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.

The charges arise from an incident on December 25, 2024, at 20B Sheriff Drive, Lumley, where it is alleged that Josei, who is in a domestic relationship with his cousin Basheru Shaid Conteh, economically abused Conteh by obtaining physical cash amounting to $1,900 and €100, totaling le75,211.

Additionally, he is accused of stealing the same amount from Conteh. Josei did not enter a plea because the case is in a preliminary investigation stage.

The prosecutor, Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai, requested a brief adjournment to confer with witnesses.

Subsequently, Magistrate Kekura denied bail and remanded Josei to the male correctional facility in Freetown. The case was adjourned until February 11, 2025.
