Student Incarcerated for Vehicular Manslaughter

Luckman Koroma, a 21-year-old undergraduate at Njala University's Mokonday Campus, has been remanded into custody following an accusation of manslaughter.

Koroma's initial appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura occurred at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown. He faced a single count of vehicular manslaughter.

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM, while operating a vehicle bearing license plate number ARD 999 FJ Cruiser at the Cole Farm junction in Freetown, the accused, Koroma, is alleged to have unlawfully caused the death of Mohamed Kawa.

Koroma did not enter a plea after the charges were read and explained to him in court since he was brought before the court for a preliminary inquiry.

Witnesses are yet to provide their testimonies in this matter. However, the prosecutor, Inspector Sellu, requested an adjournment to secure the presence of witnesses to testify against Koroma.

Magistrate Kekura granted the request and adjourned the case until September 2, 2024. Koroma remains in custody until further proceedings.
