Sierra Leone's Statistician General, Andrew Bob Johnny, will represent the country at the forthcoming 55th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission.
The 55th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission will take place from the 27th of February to the 1st of March 2024, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. The Commission is the highest international body for statistical matters, where global statistical standards are established and approved.
During the session, the Commission will discuss a range of topics, including the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics, National Accounts, Demographic and Social Statistics, Population and Housing Censuses, Big Data, Data Science, and Data Communication and Dissemination.
Andrew Bob Johnny was elected unanimously in April 2023 to represent Sierra Leone on the UN Statistical Commission for a four-year term, which commenced in January 2024. He is the second Statistician General from Sierra Leone to hold this prestigious position, after Prof. Osman Sankoh, who served a three-year term from 2020 to 2023.
This representation is a significant opportunity for Sierra Leone to contribute to the development and implementation of global statistical standards, ensuring that the country's statistical system aligns with international best practices.
