The Sierra Leone Premier League (SLPL) has signed a sponsorship deal with the Leone Rock Metal Group worth $80,000 for the 2023/2024 season. In gratitude, the Sierra Leone Premier League board has renamed the league to Leone Rock Premier League.
This sponsorship deal from Leone Rock Metal Group, one of the largest companies in Sierra Leone is a sign of the growing interest in football in the country and its investment in the league is sure to help to raise the standards of competition.
The sponsorship providing financial support to the (18) premier league clubs is particularly important given the challenges that the league has faced in recent years, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing economic crisis.
The Leone Rock Premier League will commence on November 3rd, 2023, with FC Kallon facing Old Edwardians, Freetonians SLIFA entertaining Luawa, and the two newly promoted sides of Kahunla Rangers and Bhantal FC meeting in Kenema, among a host of other fixtures.
