Delegates from various sporting organizations in Sierra Leone, representing both the Commonwealth and Olympic spheres, convened for an Ordinary Congress at the Country Lodge Hotel in Freetown.
The gathering provided an opportunity for discussions and planning for the future of sports in the country. In her opening remarks, the Minister of Sports, Augusta James Teima, urged the members of the sports community to work together in changing the narrative surrounding Sierra Leone's sports ecosystem. She praised the developmental strides made by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) and highlighted its positive impact on sports in the country.
The President of both the NOC-SLE and the Commonwealth Games Association, Prince Sualley, addressed the Congress and celebrated the selfless service of two of his predecessors, Henry G Moore and Dr. Patrick Coker, for laying the foundation for the continued progress of the NOC and sports as a whole. The Congress provided a platform for open dialogue and collaboration between various sporting bodies in Sierra Leone. Minister Teima's call for unity, coupled with the recognition of past leaders by the NOC President, set a positive tone for the event.
The treasurer of the NOC-SLE, Unisa Deen Kargbo, highlighted during his financial report the steps taken by the body to empower athletes through training camps. He also mentioned the relocation of the NOC-SLE headquarters from Howe Street to Walpole Street as a way to rebrand the status of the body.
The Ordinary Congress holds promise for a brighter future for sports in Sierra Leone with a renewed focus on joint efforts and building upon the existing developmental initiatives.
