The President of the National Olympic Committee/Commonwealth Games Association of Sierra Leone (NOC/CGA-SLE), Prince Sualley, and Unisa Deen Kargbo (UDK), President of the Sierra Leone National Paralympic Committee (SLE-NPC), were honored with individual National Awards from the Sierra Leone Women’s Forum for their contributions to the development of women and girls in the sports sector.
The awards were presented at a ceremony held at the Bintumani International Centre in Freetown on Saturday, November 11, 2023, in recognition of the two leaders’ commitment to promoting gender equality in sports and their efforts to create opportunities for women and girls to participate in and excel in sports.
In his remarks, Prince Sualley thanked the Sierra Leone Women’s Forum for the award and said that he was honored to be recognized for his work to promote gender equality in sports. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that women and girls have equal opportunities to participate in and benefit from sports.
“I am grateful to the Sierra Leone Women’s Forum for this award,” Sualley said. “I am passionate about promoting gender equality in sports, and I believe that sports can play a powerful role in empowering women and girls. I am committed to ensuring that women and girls in Sierra Leone have equal opportunities to participate in and benefit from sports.”
UDK also expressed his gratitude for the award and said that he was proud of the progress that has been made in promoting gender equality in sports in Sierra Leone. He said that the NOC/CGA-SLE is committed to continuing to work to create opportunities for women and girls to participate in and excel in sports.
“I am honored to receive this award from the Sierra Leone Women’s Forum,” UDK said. “I am proud of the progress that we have made in promoting gender equality in sports in Sierra Leone, but there is still more work to be done. I am committed to continuing to work with the NOC/CGA-SLE to create opportunities for women and girls to participate in and excel in sports.”
The SLE-NPC President was also grateful for the award and said that it was a recognition of the work that the committee is doing to promote gender equality in sports for people with disabilities. He said that the SLE-NPC is committed to ensuring that people with disabilities have equal opportunities to participate in and excel in sports.
“I am honored to receive this award from the Sierra Leone Women’s Forum,” the SLE-NPC President said. “This award is a recognition of the work that the SLE-NPC is doing to promote gender equality in sports for people with disabilities. We are committed to ensuring that people with disabilities have equal opportunities to participate in and excel in sports.”
The Sierra Leone Women’s Forum is a non-governmental organization that works to promote the rights and well-being of women and girls in Sierra Leone. The forum’s National Awards are presented annually to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the advancement of women and girls in Sierra Leone.
The presentation of the National Awards to the two sports leaders is a significant recognition of the progress that has been made in promoting gender equality in sports in Sierra Leone. It is also a testament to the commitment of these leaders to creating opportunities for women and girls to participate in and benefit from sports.
