The Sierra Leone Dodgeball Association (SLDBA) paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Mr. Patrick M. Gibrilla, on August 23th, 2023, at his office on Scan Drive in Freetown. Mr. Gibrilla is also the Vice President of the SLDBA.
The purpose of the call was to congratulate Mr. Gibrilla on his recent appointment as Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, to discuss the association's plans for the future of dodgeball in Sierra Leone, and to reaffirm the association's commitment to developing female dodgeball players.
In his remarks, SLDBA President Abdul Tejan Kassim said that the SLDBA is a family and that it is always important to congratulate one's own. He also said that the association is working to create more opportunities for girls and women to play dodgeball.
Mr. Gibrilla thanked the SLDBA for the visit and expressed his happiness with the progress the association has made in developing dodgeball in Sierra Leone. He also noted the association's commitment to preparing for the African Dodgeball Championship in Morocco later this year.
Dodgeball teams of all categories were present during the courtesy call. One of the female captains of the SLDBA, Ms. Ayodele Yasmin Robert, spoke about the association's commitment to developing female dodgeball players. She said that the association is working to create more opportunities for girls and women to play dodgeball and that it is important to provide role models for young girls who are interested in the sport.
The courtesy call was a positive event for the SLDBA and for dodgeball in Sierra Leone. It was an opportunity for the association to congratulate Mr. Gibrilla on his appointment, to discuss the future of dodgeball in the country, and to reaffirm the association's commitment to developing female dodgeball players.
The World Dodgeball Federation (WDBF) and the African Dodgeball Federation(ADBF) also congratulated Mr. Gibrilla on his appointment. WDBF President Duane Wysynski said that Mr. Gibrilla's appointment is a "great step forward for dodgeball in Sierra Leone" and that he looks forward to working with Mr. Gibrilla to promote the sport in the country. ADBF President Koum Hippolyte said that Mr. Gibrilla's appointment is a "positive development for dodgeball in Africa" and that he is confident that Mr. Gibrilla will help to grow the sport on the continent.
