PPRC Reprimands Political Parties

Updated: Mar 27

The Political Parties Regulation Commission has fined the All People’s Congress Party, a hundred and twenty thousand new Leones for failing to adhere to initial warning to refrain from using invectives during party activities.

The said infraction was done during the rally of Flagbearer Samura Kamara, back to Freetown, when some members could be heard chanting abuses against the First Lady of Sierra Leone, Fatima Maada Bio.

The abuses had ranged from calling her a witch and a woman of easy values.

These abuses though not specifically referenced in the release had received social media attention on the very day of the rally, with opposition friend of the First Lady, in the person of Sylvia Blyden, calling for protective action on behalf of First Lady and other women.

The Political Parties Regulation Commission also gave an official warning to the Sierra Leone People’s party, after an assemble of party supporters at Calaba town led to skirmishes during APC’s rally to Freetown with their flagbearer. This the PPRC says amounts to disruption of opponent’s activity, which could earn the SLPP their own fine, if such actions persist.
