News of the shooting of an operations support division officer in Makeni, had broken out on late Saturday 8th April, 2023. The officer had turned out to be the OSD regional Coordinator in the North-East region headquarter town of Makeni, ASP Mathew Moiwah Gbanya.
Narrations of events and reasons for the shooting had remained unclear but had been centred around political and criminal ones.
This morning, the Sierra Leone police has issued a release on the incident and has labeled it as a targeted killing by unknown perpetrators.
The police in their release encouraged calmness regarding this issue whilst promising a thorough investigation to determine the perpetrators motives.
