Amara Kargbo, a laborer, has been remanded to prison after his initial court appearance in connection with the murder of Moray Kargbo.

Kargbo appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, facing a single count of murder contrary to the law.

However, Kargbo could not enter a plea as he was arraigned on a preliminary investigation.

According to the police report, on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at No. 14 Sesay Lane, Moyiba, in Freetown, the accused, Kargbo, murdered Moray Kargbo.

Led in evidence by Deputy Superintendent of Police Aminatu Daboh, the first prosecution witness, Yayah Mansaray, a plumber, revealed that on September 26, 2024, he was at Sesay Lane Moyiba, where the incident occurred, eating when he heard a voice shouting, "You have stabbed me."

Mansaray stated that he abandoned his food and proceeded to the crime scene. Upon arrival, he found the deceased bleeding profusely from his chest.

Mansaray added that he encountered the accused at the crime scene. According to Mansaray, the accused attempted to flee but was apprehended by some youth in the vicinity.

Mansaray continued his testimony, stating that the deceased's relative took him to the hospital, noting that around 7:30 p.m. that same day, he was informed that Moray had passed away.

The witness confirmed that he made a statement at the PWD Police Station the following morning.

The accused, who was not represented by a lawyer in court, cross-examined the witness to ascertain the veracity of the evidence presented against him.

More witnesses are expected to testify against the accused. Meanwhile, Magistrate Kekura remanded the accused and adjourned the matter to November 11, 2024.
