Ministers of Energy and Finance Commit to enhancing Sierra Leone's Energy Capacity

Sierra Leone's Ministers of Energy and Finance, Alhaji Kanja Sesay and Sheku Fantamadi Bangura have committed to enhancing energy capacity for economic development in Sierra Leone.

The Ministers were at a signing of a memorandum of understanding with partners, millennium Challenge Corporation, after deliberating on increasing the country's existing and potential energy capacities.

The signing is to conclude deliberations surrounding Sierra Leone's eligibility standing and ensuring that the proposed Compact documents are submitted to its Board of Directors for approval, expectedly in the last quarter of 2023.

The two Ministers attributed their achievement to the efforts made to improve social and good governance sectors.

Significantly, the proposed energy Compact is expected to bring about some foundational investments in Sierra Leone's transmission network, including the construction of the Southern Corridor 225kV transmission line, the National Dispatch Centers and complementary projects at sub-transmission level, and substations on the 161kV line running from Bumbuna to Freetown.

Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, lauded the reforms in the Aide Memoire, noting that they address critical areas and have the potential to positively impact investments in the energy sector.
