Sierra Leone's Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, on Saturday 2nd September, 2023 toured the cities of Bo and Kenema to assess the progress of the Bo-Kenema Network Rehabilitation Project. The project seeks to improve transmission and distribution lines in the two cities, expand or increase access to quality and reliable electricity to 12 communities between the two cities, and cater for emerging or unserved communities within the two cities.
Mr. Sesay expressed satisfaction with the status of the project and the progress that contractors had made, noting that 60% of the work had been completed. He informed reporters that the requisite materials needed for the implementation and/or completion of the project had been amassed in the country, adding that a couple of substations had already been completed.
The Minister of Energy said that with what he had seen on the ground, he was confident that the project would be completed by the stipulated timeline of December this year. He concluded by saying that the project, which is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the African Development Bank (AfDB), would positively impact the quality and reliability of electricity supply in the two districts and would enable citizens to massively enjoy the CLSG electricity.
