Mechanic Receives 3-Year Prison Sentence for Fraud


Mustapha Kargbo, a 40-year-old motor mechanic, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for fraud. He appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, facing two charges: conspiracy contrary to law and obtaining money by false pretences, as outlined in Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act 1916. Kargbo pleaded guilty to all charges. 



The particulars of the offense state that on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Lumley Safecon Roundabout in Freetown, Kargbo attempted to defraud victims by obtaining $6,000 and Le 146,400 under the pretence of selling a RAV4 vehicle, with full knowledge of the falsity of his claim. 



Following Kargbo’s guilty plea, Magistrate Kekura imposed a sentence of three years' imprisonment or, alternatively, a fine of SLE 400.
