Local Driver Sentenced to 12 Months for Theft

Abu Bakarr Sesay, a 25-year-old driver, was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment after being found guilty of theft. This ruling highlights the justice system's commitment to addressing property crimes within the country.

On Friday, November 8, 2024, at #50c Smart Farm off Wilkinson Road in Freetown, Sesay stole a black cross bag, driving license, TVS Motorbike switch key, bike monitoring officer card, and foam crepe, all belonging to Kalie Idrissa Bangura, with a total value of SLE 3,850.

Consequently, Sesay was arraigned before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown, facing one count charge of larceny contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916. The accused pleaded guilty as charged.

Before sentencing, the prosecutor, Detective Police Constable 17649 Kargbo, disclosed that there were no prior criminal records against the accused.

The accused appealed to the Bench for leniency.

Despite his plea in mitigation, Magistrate Kekura sentenced the accused to 12 months imprisonment at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
