Dr. Philip John Kanu, the Vice Chancellor and Principal of Milton Magai Technical University, is currently involved in a legal dispute with lecturer Tejan Sheik Rogers, who is accused of cyberbullying. Mr. Rogers is facing charges of cyberstalking, in violation of Section 44 (2) (b) of the Cyber Security and Crime Act of 2001.
Authorities allege that between November 1 and November 31, 2022, in Freetown, Mr. Rogers used his WhatsApp account to create and distribute recorded audio and text messages targeting Dr. Philip John Kanu.
These messages were reportedly shared within a WhatsApp group named "Maada Must Stay Campaign," with the intent to damage Dr. Kanu’s reputation through cyberstalking and bullying via a computer system. During subsequent court proceedings, the accused, Mr. Rogers, was present.
Prosecutor CSP Joan Bull informed the court that the prosecution had concluded its case. Defense counsel Tejan Barrie requested, and was granted, a brief adjournment to prepare and present their defense.
The case has been adjourned until March 14, 2025, for Mr. Rogers to present his defense. He remains on bail.
