Lebanese nationals Hussein Antar (65), Jamal Antar (65), and Sulaiman Barrie (25), a Sierra Leonean, have been remanded for illegally importing bomb-making materials into Sierra Leone. The accused were brought before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at the Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown on the 29th of August 2024.
They face thirty charges, including conspiracy, funding the transportation and stockpiling of chemical weapons, unauthorized importation of arms manufacturing materials, possession of such materials without a valid license, and other related offenses.
According to the police, Hussein Antar provided funds for the unlawful transportation of chemical weapons, while the accused individuals allegedly conspired to import arms manufacturing materials into Sierra Leone without the required license. Additionally, they are charged with possessing and stockpiling bomb-making materials without authorization and aiding and abetting the unlawful importation and stockpiling of prohibited drugs.
During the court session, Sulaiman Barrie appeared to be in poor health. The accused individuals did not enter a plea and were remanded, with the prosecution expected to present witnesses at the next hearing on the 30th of August 2024.
Yusif Isaac Sesay represented the state, while Daniel Koroma Esq represented the accused individuals. The prosecution is expected to bring witnesses to testify in court.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Bangura remanded the accused persons and he adjourned the matter to the 30th of August 2024.
