Sierra Leonean defender Abdulai Juma Bah has completed a loan transfer to French Ligue 1 side RC Lens from Manchester City. The 18-year-old, who had a brief stint at La Liga club Valladolid, will continue his development in France.
Bah joined Valladolid in January, making 12 appearances in Spain’s top tier. However, the young defender activated a €6 million release clause earlier this week, which led to the termination of his contract.
Despite his intentions to pursue a new opportunity, the move has sparked controversy, with Valladolid threatening legal action against Bah. The Spanish club accused the player of breaching contractual commitments and criticized Manchester City Group for providing “ill-advice” during the process.
Though the transfer has been marred by off-field issues, Bah is eager to focus on his footballing future. He is expected to feature for RC Lens in the coming weeks, with his debut potentially coming in their next match against Montpellier.
This move makes Bah the second Sierra Leonean to play in Ligue 1, following in the footsteps of former AS Monaco striker Mohamed Kallon.
With a promising future ahead, Bah’s transition to France marks an important step in his development, and Lens will be hoping his talents can contribute to their push in the French top flight.
