The Honourable Ibrahim Conteh, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Parliament, reprimanded the Ministry of Agriculture.
During the Public Accounts Committee hearing on the 2023 Auditor General's Report held on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the Parliament administrative building, Hon. Tawa Conteh expressed criticism towards officials from the Ministry of Agriculture concerning the deteriorating condition of the Agricultural Kissy store.
The Chairman remarked that the store's condition undermines the "Feed Salone" project, highlighting issues of non-compliance in facility maintenance and the timely distribution of agricultural machinery to farmers.
An earlier site visit by the Public Accounts Committee the previous week confirmed the store's poor condition, which caused significant concern among committee members.
The visit revealed several pieces of machinery in various states of disrepair, including harrows, power tillers, and combined harvesters, purchased by the Government but never distributed or used for their intended purpose, resulting in a substantial waste of the government's critical resources. These issues were communicated to the ministry officials.
The Permanent Secretary, representing the Ministry, apologized to Parliament for the store's condition and pledged to improve the maintenance of the facilities.
