Frank John Langba, aged 19, is set to face trial in the High Court following charges of burglary in Freetown, where he is accused of stealing a flat-screen television and cash. This case underscores the persistent issue of property crime in Freetown.
Langba appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1, facing two counts of burglary and larceny.
The charges relate to an incident on July 2, 2024, when Langba allegedly broke into the residence of Fatmata Binta Bangura at #73 Balla Drive, Regent Road, Lumley, with the intent to commit theft.
He is accused of stealing a 42-inch plasma TV, two speakers, and 1,500 Leones in cash, amounting to a total of 6,250 Leones in stolen goods.
After the charges were presented, Langba did not enter a plea. Prosecutor Brima Kargbo called three witnesses to testify, including a formal witness who provided various exhibits pertinent to the case.
Langba, lacking legal representation, cross-examined the prosecution's witnesses.
Magistrate Kekura observed that although Langba initially denied the allegations, he later confessed, stating that he had entered a church compound and noticed a vulnerable window at Bangura's residence.
He admitted to removing the window, gaining entry, and stealing the specified items. Following this admission, the magistrate concluded that the prosecution had presented adequate evidence.
As a result, Langba’s case has been committed to the High Court under Section 120 of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965. Langba will remain on bail pending further court proceedings.
