Former Minister of Finance Patricia Laverley has been granted a three-month bail extension by the High Court to facilitate her continued medical treatment abroad.

During a session at Pademba Road Court No. 2, her defense attorney, M. S. Koroma, informed Magistrate Bangura that Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens granted the extension application on December 6, 2024. Koroma disclosed that Laverley is currently undergoing treatment in Ghana and requires a Coronary Angiogram, a procedure not currently available in Sierra Leone.

Court documents reveal that Laverley faces two counts of inflicting grievous bodily harm. Allegations state that on November 12, 2024, she assaulted Nabella Tunis, the Minister of Tourism, with the intent to cause significant harm.

Koroma noted that Justice Stevens ordered Laverley to seek treatment at St. Michael's Specialist Hospital in Lapaz, Accra, given the complexity of her medical needs. He further indicated that state counsel Yusuf Isaac Sesay did not object to the defense's request for an extension.

Laverley is charged under Section 20 of the Offenses Against the Person Act of 1861 for inflicting grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, stemming from the alleged incident at the State House in Freetown.

Following the proceedings, Magistrate Bangura adjourned the case until May 5, 2025, to allow Laverley to focus on her recovery.
