The Government of Sierra Leone has declared the incidents of November 26th as a failed coup attempt foiled by the security apparatus. This statement was made by the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, and reiterated by all security representatives at a weekly press briefing conducted by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education.
The statement clarifies and amplifies the events of Sunday, which had been widely speculative.
President Bio had alluded to the involvement of the opposition All People’s Congress party in the incident while addressing a high-powered delegation from ECOWAS and Nigeria in his office yesterday.
The opposition APC party has since condemned the attacks and denied any involvement in the events.
According to the government, thirteen (13) serving military personnel and one civilian have been arrested.
