The Sierra Leonean football community mourns the passing of the former defender, who succumbed to a prolonged illness. Affectionately known as "Masinga," Mr. Fornah had a distinguished career, playing for numerous clubs, including Central Parade, FC Kallon, Freetown City Football Club, and Black Hall Road Strikers.
The interment took place at Kissy Road Cemetery, with family, friends, and former teammates in attendance to commemorate his life and career. Among the numerous tributes, a particularly poignant one was delivered by his former coach, Abubakarr Kabia, also known as Coach Lamtey. Mr. Kabia lauded Mr. Fornah's dedication to the sport and his positive influence both on and off the field, especially during their association at Black Hall Road Strikers.
Abdulai Yillah, the current first-choice goalkeeper for Black Hall Community and a former teammate, also offered a moving eulogy. Mr. Yillah recalled Mr. Fornah's mentorship during his formative years as a goalkeeper, acknowledging the invaluable guidance and support that shaped his career.
Mr. Fornah’s passing at the age of 35 is a significant loss, especially to his wife, family, and close friends. His presence in the footballing world will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Remembered for his mild-mannered nature and affable personality, Mr. Fornah leaves a lasting legacy of sportsmanship and camaraderie. His career, characterized by both triumphs and adversities, embodied the essence of teamwork and perseverance.
The tributes from his peers underscore not only his on-field talent but also the positive impact he had on those around him. Although Edward Fornah is deceased, his contribution to Sierra Leonean football will remain.
