Former Craig Bellamy Foundation star Rodney Michael Jr. made his debut for the Leone Stars in a Pre-Afcon Friendly against Ivory Coast, and scored a consolation goal in a 5-1 defeat at the Stade Laurent San Pedro.
In the dying minutes of the match, Michael received a long ball, controlled it expertly with his foot, and volleyed it into the back of the net, sending a few Leone Stars supporters in the stadium into euphoria.
Captain Kwame Quee's tireless work ethic in midfield and Abu Dumbuya's assist provided a calming presence for the team. Michael's fairytale journey, from playing in the Craig Bellamy Foundation Academy league to scoring a goal for his national team, has inspired young footballers across Sierra Leone.
Social media is hailing him as a future Leone Stars legend, and with his invaluable contributions, the team looks poised to secure a win against Morocco on January 11th, 2023 at the San Pedro Stadium.
