In a notable case at Pademba Road Court No. 2, Israel Cooper was brought before Magistrate Santigie Bangura, facing charges of threatening language and malicious damage.
On April 12, 2025, at 66 Black Hall Road, Freetown, Cooper allegedly used threatening language towards Mbalu Conteh, potentially inciting a breach of the peace.
The second charge alleges that on the same date, he maliciously damaged a wooden door valued at 1,000 Leones, belonging to Reverend Joseph Cooper, his father.
Upon hearing the charges, Cooper entered a plea of not guilty.
Prosecutor Sergeant 3379 Ballay called Reverend Joseph Cooper as the first witness, who confirmed that the accused is his son.
The Reverend detailed an incident on April 12, during which Israel threatened to lock the bathroom and harm anyone present.
After receiving a warning from a neighbor, he reported the threats to the police and discovered that Israel had damaged the door, leaving the premises unsecured. Distressed by his son's actions, he provided a statement to the authorities.
The accused cross-examined his father, despite not having legal representation.
Magistrate Bangura denied bail, citing concerns for community safety, and remanded Cooper into custody. The case was adjourned to May 1, 2025.
