Eyewitness in Deep Eye Water murder case testifies in court


During an ongoing preliminary investigation into a shooting incident at "Deep Eye Water" resulting in the death of Yaya Barrie, a school pupil named Franklyn Gbao testified in an open court as an eyewitness. 


The accused individuals, Mohamed Mansaray (alias All Don Bus), Isaac Bah, Umar Momoh Kanu, and four others, are alleged to have engaged in robbery activities, which led to the shooting and killing of Yaya Barrie. The accused are currently facing eleven charges, including shooting with intent to kill, wounding with intent, and robbery with aggravation, among others, before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown.



In his testimony under oath, prosecution witness Franklyn Gbao identified the accused persons as a gang and recounted that he and other members of the Deep eye Community organized to provide security for residents who had been subjected to several attacks. Gbao stated that during a search for the accused persons, he and his colleagues visually identified the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th accused individuals. He further disclosed that the 3rd accused fired a shot resulting in the death of the deceased, Yaya Barrie.


Following the apprehension of the accused individuals and the deceased being conveyed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Gbao provided a statement to the police. Following Gbao's testimony, the accused individuals who were not represented in court conducted a cross-examination of the witness. 



Subsequently, Magistrate Bangura remanded the accused individuals and adjourned the matter to the 26th of June 2024.
