Emma Morlia Sesay, an unemployed woman, found herself behind bars after making her first appearance at Pademba Road Court No. 2, facing a charge of child stealing.
The charge, categorized as contrary to Section 56 of the Defence Against the Person Act of 1861, stems from an incident that allegedly occurred on November 13, 2024, in Freetown's Fort Street area.
According to court documents, Sesay is accused of taking a one-week and five-day-old baby boy from his parents, Mustapha Sesay, without their consent. When the charges were read in court, the accused did not enter a plea.
Prosecutor Sergeant 8811 Florence M. Wilson requested a short postponement to confer with her witness ahead of the trial.
Emma Sesay was represented by attorney A. N. D. Musa Esq.
Magistrate Santigie Bangura denied bail, citing the gravity of the allegations, and ordered Sesay to be remanded at the female correctional center in Freetown.
The case has been adjourned to January 30, 2025, for the continuation of the trial.
