The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has formally notified the High Commission of the Republic of Sierra Leone in Abuja, Nigeria, of an upcoming Assessment Mission to Sierra Leone scheduled from 4th to 7th June 2024. The evaluation aims to assess the state of implementation of the 'Agreement for National Unity' entered into between the Government of Sierra Leone and the All Peoples Congress (APC) party on 18th October 2023.
Led by Her Excellency Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, the Joint Facilitator of the Mediated Dialogue process and former Vice President of The Gambia, the Mission will comprise representatives from the African Union Commission (AUC), United Nations Office in West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), and the Commonwealth of Nations.
The Mission's agenda encompasses consultations with the Committee on Electoral Systems and Management Bodies Review, the Sierra Leonean government, and the APC party. Furthermore, the Mission will engage with other moral guarantors of the Agreement, such as the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC), stakeholders, and the diplomatic community.
In light of these significant engagements, the ECOWAS Commission has sought the support of the Government of Sierra Leone to ensure the successful execution of the Mission.
The ECOWAS Commission avails itself of this opportunity to convey its highest regards to the High Commissioner of the Republic of Sierra Leone, recognizing the value of collaborative efforts in fostering unity and progress within the region.
