A 26-year-old driver, Bayoh Kamara, accused of property damage at Milton Margai Technical University, was granted bail by Magistrate Santigie Bangura on February 11, 2025, after entering a not guilty plea in court.
The accused is facing a charge of malicious damage under Section 51 of the Malicious Damage Act of 1861.
According to the charge sheet, on January 26, 2025, Kamara allegedly caused damage to the electrical components of three Sino trucks, registered as AVI 021, AVI 024, and AVI 025, at the Milton Margai Technical University, Congo Cross Campus in Freetown. The trucks belong to the National Commission for Social Action.
The total estimated value of the damaged property is Le 16,000.
Kamara pleaded not guilty when the charge was read.
The prosecution, represented by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, requested a short adjournment to confer with witnesses regarding the case.
Defense counsel C. Kamara, Esq., applied for bail, arguing that his client was not a flight risk and citing Section 79 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965.
Magistrate Bangura granted bail in the sum of Le 20,000, requiring two sureties of the same amount who must reside in Freetown.
The bail conditions are subject to approval by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The case has been adjourned to March 3, 2025, for the continuation of the trial.
