Defendant to Stand Trial at the High Court for Murder

Isheaml Conteh, the accused, is scheduled to appear before the High Court of Sierra Leone to respond to the accusation of murdering Ishmael Moiba on the 27th and 28th of December 2023, in the vicinity of Upper George Brooke Dwazark Freetown.

The committal of the case between Conteh and the State ensued after the prosecution presented witnesses who testified against Conteh, who is facing a murder charge.

The accused was brought before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown on a count of murder, which contravenes Section 1 of the Offenses Against the Person Act 1861, as repealed and replaced by Section (1)(a) of the Abolition of Death Penalty Act 6 of 2022.

During the course of a preliminary investigation, the prosecution presented four witnesses, including the eyewitness who provided a detailed account of the incident leading to the victim's death.

Delivering his ruling, Magistrate Sahr Kekura acknowledged that the prosecution has presented substantial evidence against the accused, warranting the committal of the matter to the High Court.

Magistrate Kekura remitted the case to the High Court for trial and remanded the accused into custody until the trial commences.

Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai acted as the prosecutor in the case.
