On September 6, 2024, Sam Sesay, a 22-year-old caretaker, was remanded into custody by Magistrate Santigie Bangura in Court No. 2 at Pademba Road, Freetown, on charges of conspiracy and larceny. The accused entered a plea of not guilty to both charges.
It is alleged that on August 20, 2024, Sesay conspired with others to steal the sum of 150,000 Leones from the residence of former Leone Stars coach, John Keister, situated at No. 5 Springer Street, off Johnson Street, Aberdeen.
During the proceedings, Francis Sesay, the younger brother of the accused, testified under oath. He recounted a visit he made to his brother on April 20, 2024, during which Sam Sesay allegedly took him to the upper floor of Keister's residence and retrieved a bundle of 10,000 Leones from a drawer in Keister's bedroom. Sam attempted to give the money to Francis, who refused upon suspecting that it might be a setup by Keister. Francis persuaded his brother to return the money to the drawer and lock it.
Despite Francis's intervention, the money reportedly went missing shortly thereafter, prompting him to provide a statement at the police station.
Defense counsel G.O. Fulla Samuels requested bail for Sesay, but Magistrate Bangura denied the application based on the evidence presented in court. The case has been adjourned to September 12, 2024, for further proceedings.
