Brewery Provides Free Seeds and Training to Sorghum Farmers

Sierra Leone Brewery Limited (SLBL), has undertaken a proactive initiative to support and empower sorghum farmers across various districts. The company's efforts include free seed distribution and pre-planting training, aligning with SLBL's commitment to enhancing local content in agriculture.

On Tuesday, 16th April, the Bombali District witnessed a significant turnout of households participating in the training session. Farmers were provided with essential skills and knowledge necessary for the upcoming planting season. Newcomers to the sorghum farmers' association received free sorghum seeds as an incentive to kickstart their farming endeavors. SLBL has pledged to purchase the harvests from these farmers, ensuring a direct source of income.

The training and seed distribution will continue in other districts throughout the month. This concerted effort aims to offer livelihood opportunities to numerous households and contribute to the HEINEKEN BaBW Local Sourcing agenda, which promotes sustainable sourcing practices.

Spearheading this initiative is Joseph Sesay, the Local Sourcing Coordinator, who has successfully completed a sorghum awareness campaign in various districts. By facilitating access to resources and market opportunities, SLBL seeks to complement government initiatives in creating employment opportunities for local Sierra Leoneans in the agricultural sector.

This initiative underscores SLBL's commitment to sustainable agricultural practices, economic empowerment, and community development. It sets a positive trajectory for the agricultural landscape in Sierra Leone, promoting the growth and prosperity of local farmers and contributing to the overall economic development of the nation.
