Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of Sierra Leone international Augustus Kargbo from Italian Serie B side Cesena. The 25-year-old forward joins on a deal set to run until June 2027, becoming the club's third signing of the January transfer window.
Kargbo arrives at Ewood Park as Rovers seek to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the crucial second half of the Championship season. Manager John Eustace had made the addition of a central striker a priority, and Kargbo is set to fill that role as Blackburn push for a play-off spot.
Reports earlier this week suggested that the move was imminent, with Cesena reportedly demanding €1.2 million for the striker. Blackburn have now agreed to the terms, finalizing the deal ahead of the February 3rd transfer deadline.
Kargbo’s arrival follows a series of links with other forward options, including Coventry City’s Brandon Thomas-Asante, Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford, and West Bromwich Albion’s Jed Wallace. However, the club has now turned to Kargbo to bolster their attack for the remainder of the season.
While Blackburn expects Kargbo to sign a contract running through 2029, his agent is reportedly seeking a shorter deal, potentially lasting until 2027 or 2028.
Despite the ongoing negotiations around the contract length, Kargbo’s signing is seen as a crucial move to boost Rovers’ hopes for the remainder of the campaign. With the transfer deadline fast approaching, the addition of Kargbo is a key step in Blackburn’s ambition to continue their climb in the Championship.
