Bench Warrant issued for Military Officer in Store Break-In

Magistrate Sahr Kekura has approved an application for a bench warrant against a military officer facing a store breaking allegation.

Mohamed Buya Fofanah, 49, a military officer, and Idrissa Conteh, 46, also a military officer, stand before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at the Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown, charged with three counts of store breaking, larceny, and receiving stolen goods.

On July 16, 2024, at the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) compound in Kirma Port Loko Road, Lungi Kafu Bullom Chiefdom, Port Loko District, Northern Sierra Leone, the accused unlawfully entered and broke into the store of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority compound and stole six solar batteries and thirty-four solar panels, amounting to a total value of seventy-nine thousand Leones (79,000), the property of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority.

Furthermore, the police allege that the second accused person, on the same date and location, received two solar panels worth two thousand Leones (2,000) from Mohamed Boya Fofanah, knowing them to be stolen.

Due to an ongoing preliminary investigation, the accused persons did not enter a plea after the charges were read and explained to them.

Following the explanation of the charges, the prosecutor, Detective Police Constable Thoronka K.K., requested a bench warrant for the second accused person, who was absent from the court. The prosecutor also requested an adjournment.

Magistrate Bangura granted the application and adjourned the matter to October 10, 2024. The first accused remains in custody.
