Kalokoh appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, facing one count of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the indictment, on January 21, 2025, in Wilkinson Road, Freetown, Kalokoh allegedly stole a RAV 4 Jeep, registered as AFR 635, with a value of $15,000 (equivalent to Le 52,500).
The vehicle is owned by Dentonia Sylvia Gladys Johnson. Upon hearing the charges, Kalokoh pleaded not guilty.
During the proceedings, prosecution witness Clarise King, led in evidence by Inspector Kadie M. Taylor, testified that on January 24, 2025, while walking along Campbell Street, he observed the accused driving the stolen vehicle. King then pursued Kalokoh on a motorcycle, tracing the vehicle to the East end of Freetown, near a checkpoint, where he alerted several police officers.
King further stated that the police officers escorted him and the accused to the Congo Cross Police Station, where they filed a report regarding the stolen RAV 4.
C. Kamara Esq., counsel for the accused, applied for bail, arguing that Kalokoh is a family man and a citizen of Sierra Leone, and that he has a fixed abode. Counsel made the application under Section 79(3) of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965.
However, Magistrate Kekura denied the bail request, citing the gravity of the charges. The case has been adjourned to February 11, 2025, for further hearings.
