Leone stars Head Coach John Keister on Monday 5th June, 2023 announced his Provisional Squad ahead of the Super Eagles matchday 5 of the Afcon qualifier at the SKD Stadium in Liberia on the 18th of June.
The announcement was made on the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Instagram page.
The Acting Secretary general of SLFA , Ing. Mohamad Benson Bawoh, noted from the Administrative point of view that they've done a series of engagements with the Liberian Football Federation regarding the SKD stadium among other things.
He maintained that the Team would set up camp in Bo before departing for Liberia to Face Nigeria in Matchday 5 of the Afcon qualifier.
During his brief statement, the acting Executive Director of the National Sports Authority Dr. Abdulrahman Swaray stressed on the Commitment of government in providing the needed support to the Senior National team Leone stars. He added that he had forwarded the budget generated by the SLFA to the Ministry of Finance for onward compliance. He also lauded the Preparation of John Keister ahead of the Super Eagles clash, noting that Sierra Leone is no stranger to the Nigerians.
Meanwhile , Coach Keister says he is very optimistic going into the Super Eagles Match and pointed out the constraints of the team in relation to the unavailability of Issa Kallon, Alex Bangura, Sullay Kaikai, Jonathan Morsay and Alhassan Bangura, before he named the 36 provisional players, which comprised of 24 home-based players who have been doing so well in the Sierra Leone Premier League, and as well as 12 Foreign based players including Captain Steven Caulker.
The new faces in the squad list are mostly standbys, since the team is grappling with injury challenges.
